NCER vehemently supports transparency in medical research as it is foundational in the ability of patients to make autonomous decisions to participate in receiving medications or treatments. Last year, in an unprecedented move, Pfizer requested the release by the FDA of their safety data from research on their COVID-19 mRNA vaccine be extensively delayed with a gradual issuance over the course of 75 years. Pfizer then formally requested the approval of their vaccine for use in newborns to age 5.

Thankfully, a federal judge rejected the request for the delay in data release due to a case which originated from a denied FOIA filing by the Public Health and Medical Professionals for Transparency. Perhaps coincidently, after this court decision, Pfizer announced a postponement in their application for vaccine approval for young children. Read more here:
